Series 6000 input and output modules mount in mainframe and slave enclosures. Mainframes contain the interface to the computer that controls the system and receives the digitized data. Systems employing the IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface have one mainframe and use slave enclosures for additional input and output modules. Systems employing the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface use all mainframe enclosures.
Mainframe and slave enclosures support all Series 6000 signal conditioning, amplifier-digitizers and other I/O modules. They have integral fans that supply cooling air to the modules and power supplies. Rack mounting styles have integral cable trays that route the input and output cables from their connection on the front of the modules to exit neatly from the rear of the enclosure. Input and output cabling does not interfere with other equipment mounted above or below the system.
